Recognised by the Fuorisalone Design Week Awards, this installation was developed from concept through production as an immersive expression of Materica’s material and technological capabilities.
The project was set inside a former meat refrigeration space within the Ex Macello di Milano, using the raw, industrial character of the existing architecture as a counterpoint to the installation’s more intimate and surreal atmosphere.
The concept explored the theme of listening and introspection, creating a suspended environment conceived as a space outside conventional notions of time and place. At its centre, a monumental face emerges from the ceiling, transforming the interior into a contemplative and almost otherworldly setting.
The face became both the visual focus of the installation and a demonstration of Materica’s metallisation technology, which can be applied to a wide range of substrates, including wood, polymers, and textiles. Its scale and material treatment pushed the technology beyond conventional surface application and into a fully spatial and sculptural experience.
I managed the project from initial concept development through design, detailing, and production, translating an abstract narrative into a fully realised installation.
The final space combined material experimentation, storytelling, and technical innovation, using reflection, scale, and form to create an experience that was both intimate and monumental.
